Shenzhen, China – September 2026 – Focus Global Logistics (FGL), through its Qingdao team, has successfully completed the Weifang–Jakarta Heavy Truck BBK Project, a complex heavy-lift shipment involving 100 packages of trucks and bulk cargo. The consignment totalled 634.125 metric tons and 7,207.58 CBM and moved from Shandong, China, to Jakarta, Indonesia, with an estimated transit time of 11 days. The sailing was scheduled for 2 August 2026.
The cargo comprised tractor heads, chassis trucks and tractor duty trucks, all shipped in bulk packing. The project demanded close coordination across multiple parties, including the fleet moving vehicles from Qingdao to Weifang, the FAW ground team responsible for receiving, inspection and temporary storage, overnight repair crews, and the customs broker completing final clearance.
The Challenge: A Compressed Window After an Unexpected Incident
Normally, vehicles and large equipment arrive at port days or even weeks before vessel berthing, allowing sufficient time for customs clearance, terminal operations and stowage planning. This shipment, however, faced an unexpected setback.
Adverse weather—rain and slippery road conditions—caused partial damage to vehicles during movement from the port storage area to the vessel. Although the incident was outside FGL’s control, it threatened to disrupt the entire operation. FGL’s team coordinated overnight emergency repairs. Only after the vehicles were repaired could port consolidation begin, leaving an extremely narrow window before sailing.
The risk was clear: if any cargo failed to enter the port and complete customs clearance in time, the vessel could be forced to wait, triggering high detention costs. At the same time, multiple workstreams had to be coordinated under extreme pressure, from fleet scheduling and vehicle inspection to temporary parking, emergency repair and final customs release.
FGL’s Solution: Proactive Communication, Precise Planning and Flexible Execution
FGL’s Qingdao team adopted a combined strategy of proactive communication, detailed pre-planning and flexible contingency measures.
1. Dynamic stowage collaboration with the carrier
Before the vessel arrived, FGL maintained daily communication with the carrier, providing detailed dimensions, weights, centres of gravity, photos and loading diagrams for the vehicles. Given the large number of units and the many procedures involved, real-time updates were essential. This close coordination enabled FGL to respond immediately when the damage occurred, complete overnight repairs and still get the cargo to port and loaded in time.
Key actions included:
• Flexible stowage planning: The carrier agreed to a flexible stowage plan, with multiple scenarios—Plan A/B/C—prepared in advance. Loading plans could be adjusted according to the actual arrival sequence and terminal conditions, allowing customs clearance and port consolidation to proceed in parallel.
• Carrier tolerance secured: FGL provided a detailed port consolidation plan that demonstrated the team’s professionalism. The carrier agreed to wait within a safe time window and pre-arranged loading and discharging resources at the port.
• Precision fleet dispatch: Vehicle arrival times were estimated and managed to avoid congestion caused by concentrated arrivals.
• Advance customs and digital coordination: All customs documents were reviewed in advance, and customs declaration was initiated while the cargo was still in transit through the “advance declaration” model. This ensured that customs release instructions were largely ready when the cargo arrived at port.
The Result: Seamless Loading and Zero Waiting Time
Through these measures, FGL achieved:
• Seamless connection: All vehicles were consolidated and loaded in an orderly and efficient manner within a very short time after the vessel berthed.
• Zero waiting time: The vessel incurred no additional port stay or detention due to FGL’s cargo operations, protecting the sailing schedule.
• Integrated project leadership: The project demonstrated FGL’s core capabilities in special cargo transportation—not only transport, but project management, emergency coordination and the leadership to integrate supply chain parties, including the shipper, carrier, terminal and customs, into an efficient temporary team.
