In a landmark shipment from Shanghai, China to Mumbai, India, FGL’s Shanghai branch managed the transport of a complete set of industrial injection-molding machines, totaling 159.98 tons and divided into 12 separate packages. The consignment posed acute technical challenges: a single clamping unit weighed 76.5 tons—qualifying as an extra-heavy BBK piece—while other components weighed less than one ton each. Irregular shapes and over-dimensional profiles further complicated vessel stowage and terminal lifting.
Proactive Planning and Multi-Party Coordination
To address these pain points, the Shanghai team implemented a full-process management protocol:
• Pre-approval & Lifting Resources: Before project launch, the team compiled detailed measurement data, net/gross weights, photos, and lashing points for all 12 pieces. Dedicated vessel space was secured, and a floating crane was separately reserved for the 76.5-ton unit.
• Stowage Optimization: Light and heavy pieces were strategically positioned to balance vessel trim, with a dedicated stowage diagram issued to minimize onboard lashing complexity.
• Customs & Tallying Standardization: All packages were classified and numbered, with a unified manifest and documentation system. Dedicated staff monitored the entire chain—from factory delivery to port receipt, customs filing, and terminal checking—ensuring that all pieces cleared customs in a single batch without omissions.
Results and Benchmark Value
The shipment arrived on board the scheduled vessel without port congestion or delay. Comprehensive pre-delivery inspections of packaging and lifting points preempted lashing issues, guaranteeing cargo safety during ocean transit. China–Russia Overland OOG Transport: 10,000 km by Truck Amid Border Congestion
Simultaneously, FGL executed a strategic door-to-door road freight project moving large mechanical stretching machines from Foshan in southern China to Krasnoyarsk, Russia—a distance of over 10,000 kilometers via the Manzhouli border crossing. The decision to use trucks was a direct response to persistent capacity constraints on China–Russia railway routes, providing the client with a reliable alternative to avoid rail delays.
Navigating Regulatory Shifts and Surge Traffic
The operation encountered significant external pressures. The transit coincided with sensitive negotiations within the Kazakhstan–Russia Customs Union, creating regulatory uncertainty at borders. Simultaneously, a major diversion of Russian-bound cargo from the western Horgos crossing to the eastern Manzhouli route caused a sudden surge in traffic, straining border infrastructure and customs clearance processes.
