GUANGZHOU, China — From October 23 to 25, the entire team at Guangzhou Focus Global Logistics Corp., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Focus Global Logistics (FGL), traveled to Chenzhou in Hunan Province for a three-day team-building retreat. The program was simple: one campsite, one lake and one Danxia mountain landscape. No talk of bookings or sailing schedules—just scenery, conversation and time together.
A Campfire Start
The retreat began at a campsite by East Lake. As string lights came on at the East Lake Muye camp, the team kicked off with group games. Colleagues who usually spend their days working with bills of lading and booking confirmations gathered around the field to discuss tactics, carefully writing their team names on boards—perhaps the most focused group of the evening.
Then came the barbecue. Fire, food and a noticeably more relaxed pace. Some people took charge of the food; others took charge of the laughter. The first night set the tone for the trip: work stayed in Guangzhou; the team came together in Chenzhou.
Jeeps by the Lake
Day two belonged to the open-top Jeeps at Bailang. Blue, red and pink vehicles lined up by the lake as a photographer joined the group. A white picture frame by the water drew a queue, with every colleague determined to get at least one photo inside it.
For many, it was the first time putting a face to a name that had long been familiar from email threads.
The Final Climb
The last day took the team to Gaoyiling. Below the red-brown Danxia rock formations lay emerald-green water. The climb was steep and the wind was strong, but no one fell behind. At the summit, the team unfurled a banner and took the fullest group photo of the three days.
Arriving Together
In many ways, the trip mirrored the work FGL and its subsidiary teams do every day: start on time, connect every milestone and get everyone to the destination as planned. Normally, colleagues in Guangzhou coordinate across desks and screens to move cargo across ports and time zones. For three days, that screen-to-screen coordination became shoulder-to-shoulder travel.
The road ahead may climb, but the team will take it together. Next stop: same team, new milestones.
