BBK steel structure shipment from Shanghai to Singapore

The primary challenge of this shipment lay in the formidable dimensions of the cargo itself. Several of the steel structures measured up to 1.7 meters in length, classifying them as oversized freight. Such dimensions present significant logistical hurdles, particularly in storage yard management. Their irregular size and weight make them difficult to reposition and reload, often incurring substantial additional fees from port facilities and carriers.

Leveraging its 25 years of industry experience and established partnerships with key port operators and shipping lines, FGL’s expert team engineered a seamless logistical strategy to overcome these obstacles.

Proactive Coordination Mitigates Cost and Complexity

FGL addressed the critical issue of yard storage head-on. “Oversized cargo of this nature is not only hard to handle but can quickly accumulate unexpected demurrage and storage charges,” explained a senior FGL project manager. “Through active and continuous coordination with the ground control teams at the port, we secured special permission for the cargo to be unloaded directly in a designated area of the cargo yard. This strategic move was pivotal, as it eliminated the need for costly double-handling and saved our client significant direct loading expenses.”

Ensuring Timely Delivery Against Tight Schedules

Understanding the client’s stringent timeline requirements, FGL’s procurement team swiftly engaged its network of carrier partners to secure a vessel that could accommodate the unique cargo while adhering to a fast-turnaround schedule. By procuring a carrier with priority access for fast berthing and loading, FGL ensured the entire shipment process remained on track, preventing any costly delays for the end-client in Singapore.

A Culture of Meticulous Care and Responsibility

Throughout the project’s lifecycle, from initial load-out in Shanghai to final discharge in Singapore, the FGL operations team maintained a standard of meticulous care. The team adopted a proactive approach to problem-solving, anticipating potential issues and resolving them before they could impact the project’s timeline or budget. This end-to-end responsibility ensured that the high-value steel structures were transported safely and without incident.

This successful shipment reinforces FGL’s reputation as a trusted partner for complex logistics challenges. The company’s blend of deep industry expertise, strong partner relationships, and a client-centric approach proves essential in delivering solutions that are not only effective but also optimized for cost and efficiency.
